Why is there a tariff surcharge at checkout?

You may notice a small line item labelled “Tariff Surcharge” added during checkout.

This is related to new U.S. import tariffs that affect certain technology products manufactured in China—including Muse devices.

 

What's this surcharge for?

In early 2025, the U.S. government introduced a significant tariff increase on specific imported electronics.

Rather than raising our base prices across the board, we’ve chosen to transparently show this tariff as a separate checkout line and cover part of the cost ourselves.

This helps us:

• Keep our pricing fair and consistent.

• Avoid compromising on product quality or support.

• Give you a clear view of where the cost is coming from.

 

Why not just absorb the whole thing?

We’re absorbing a significant portion already. However, as a small company focused on making brain health more accessible, we also need to protect our ability to innovate, support, and scale responsibly.

By splitting the cost and showing it clearly, we stay true to our values: transparency, trust, and care.

 

Will this surcharge last forever?

Not necessarily.

We’re monitoring policy changes closely and will adjust if/when conditions change. We’re also exploring manufacturing and fulfillment solutions to help reduce this impact long term.
