What changed?

In version 56 of the Muse app, the Cognitive Performance card is called Alpha Peak Frequency. You'll see the new name on your session results and in the Health tab.

Only the name and the card's position have changed. Your data is the same, and nothing was removed or reset.

Why was it renamed?

Alpha Peak Frequency is where your alpha rhythm peaks during an eyes-closed session. It's measured in hertz (Hz), usually between 8 and 12 Hz. It's personal to you, so Muse compares each session with your own baseline.

We renamed the card so its name describes what it shows. Alpha Peak Frequency isn't a score of cognitive performance, and it isn't part of your Brain Age.

Where do I find Alpha Peak Frequency?

On your session results

  1. Scroll down to the Alpha Peak Frequency card, below Brain Recharge. It's collapsed by default, and your alpha peak value (for example, 9.4 Hz) shows in the header.

  2. Tap the card to expand it. You'll see the same rating, alpha peak value, message, chart and View Trends link as before.

In the Health tab

  1. Tap Health in the bottom menu bar.

  2. Alpha Peak Frequency is under Other Metrics, below the Brain Age and Brain Recharge cards.

Do I still need Muse Premium?

Yes. Alpha Peak Frequency is still included with Muse Premium. Without a subscription, the card shows Unlock in the Health tab, as before.

What does "Cognitive Performance" mean on my Brain Age results?

On your Brain Age results, Cognitive Performance is one of the two contributors to your Brain Age. It comes from your results on the four cognitive tests. It isn't the Alpha Peak Frequency card.
